Element X is our server chat app, powered by Matrix. Think of it like a private Discord or Slack.

Logging In

Mobile App (First Time)

1. Open Element X app
2. Tap Sign In
3. Tap Edit next to homeserver
4. Enter: chat.lothloriengrove.org
5. Tap Continue
6. Tap Continue with SSO
7. Sign in with Pocket-ID

Web Browser

1. Go to element.lothloriengrove.org
2. Click Sign In
3. Click Continue with SSO or Pocket-ID
4. Log in with your Pocket-ID account

Homeserver Setting

When setting up the app, make sure to use chat.lothloriengrove.org as your homeserver (not matrix.org).

Features

Rooms (Channels)

• updates - Announcements about new features, maintenance, and changes
• requests - Request audiobooks, ebooks, movies, new services, or suggest improvements
• support - Get help with any service issues
• chat - General conversation

We can add new rooms anytime - just ask!

Direct Messages

• Tap + → Start chat
• Search for family members
• Private 1-on-1 conversations

Notifications

• Configure per-room notification settings
• Tap room name → Notification settings
• Options: All messages, Mentions only, Mute

Voice & Video Calls

• Tap the phone/video icon in any chat
• Works for 1-on-1 and group calls
• Uses end-to-end encryption

File Sharing

• Drag and drop files into chat
• Share photos, documents, videos
• Files are stored on our server (not a third party)

Security

End-to-End Encryption

All private messages and rooms are encrypted. Only you and the recipients can read them.

Verification

For maximum security, verify your other devices:

1. Sign in on a new device
2. You’ll see a verification prompt on your other device
3. Confirm the emoji match
4. Now messages sync securely across devices

Key Backup

Set up key backup so you don’t lose message history:

1. Go to Settings → Security & Privacy
2. Enable Secure Backup
3. Save your recovery key somewhere safe!

Troubleshooting

Can’t find homeserver

• Make sure you entered: chat.lothloriengrove.org
• Not matrix.org (that’s a different server)
• Include the full domain, no https://

Messages not decrypting

• Verify your devices (see Security section above)
• Set up key backup to recover old messages
• See Element Encryption Issues

Not receiving notifications

• Check phone notification settings for Element X
• Check in-app notification settings per room
• Make sure battery optimization isn’t killing the app

Signed out unexpectedly

• Sessions expire for security
• Just sign in again with Pocket-ID
